The game of life
Life is a game. And what is a game without competition?
Each one of us - whether male or female, human or non-human, animal or plant - has a long line of ancestors going all the way back to the beginning. And - now this is something that will surprise you - each one of us has an obligation our ancestors. That is, you have an obligation to your ancestors and I have an obligation to mine.
You may ask, "Why do I have an obligation to my ancestors? What exactly did they do for me, so that I now owe them something?" In fact, you are probably starting to see the answer just by asking yourself that question. You see, when your mother gave birth to you and your father provided for you, it was for a selfish purpose. They may not have been selfish themselves, but rather the machinery in their bodies was selfish. Their DNA was selfish. Selfish genes, selfish DNA. Same thing. You see, DNA is programmed to create copies of itself. Not just in cell division on the molecular level, but rather on a macro scale. So your mother's and father's DNA came together and created copies of themselves, with expectation and hoping against hope that they (the copies) in turn would succeed in creating further copies of themselves.
Sometimes
You are the narrow middle of the hourglass. You are right in the middle of it, right in the thick of the action, between how things were and how things are going to be.
