Medical intervention
Excessive medical intervention is an insidious evil that permeates society, especially so in modern times. In fact, with the "westernization" of the world, all of the Capital sins are being more and more accepted as a part of everyday life in society.
In prehistoric times, Evolution shaped all life on Earth. Life and death were in balance, limited by the constant energy input from the sun. Life gave birth to life, life competed with life, and Death took his half - the half that couldn't keep up.
Later, more complex animals evolved and formed societies based on cooperation. Societies still competed on a grand scale, while individuals within societies cooperated. Death still got his half. His share was those societies that couldn't keep up.
When societies evolved and started to cooperate, there was no one left to compete with. These societies thought that they had found the perfect solution. They thought that they had defeated Death. But Death's due was only being deferred, not cancelled, and the interest was being compounded. To make things worse, we found vast (but finite) resources of energy within the earth. These resources were squandered on finding out who could commit the most capital sins. 9
