Answers to common criticisms of religion and Sciencism

  • Religion is outdated
    • It is certainly true that conventional religions are outdated. They took shape in the past, in a time and place when human understanding of Science was still in its infancy and not enough was known about the world. Thus it was difficult to dispute fantastical claims of religions. But now it is considerably easier to debunk the claims of conventional religions.
    • Sciencism on the other hand is completely based on Science. Science is timeless and is one with the Universe. Science was there at the Universe's birth and will be there at Universe's end. Every religion operates within the confines and limits set by Science (sociology, psychology, and social psychology).
  • Religion is harmful to the individual and to society
    • Conventional religions are harmful to the individual because they discourage truth-seeking and they require believers to believe in things that are patently false. They breed intolerance to anyone unlike them
    • On the other hand, participating in religion does have its benefits. In the individual, religion can promote charitable works, networking, art, social harmony (in certain ways), etc.
  • Religion promotes irrationality
  • Religion encourage terrorism
