Bars
1-8 Top couple swing in middle of set using a short arm hold
9-20 1st lady swings 2nd man once around in his place, using left arm, 1st couple swing once around in middle of the set, using right arm - repeat with 3rd and 4th men. 1st man needs to take a couple of steps down the set each time, so as to be in a position to meet his partner after she swings each man.
21-24 1st couple swing
25-36 1st man strips back up to top of the set, starting with 4th lady
37-40 1st couple swing
41-52 1st couple double strip-the-willow to bottom of set
53-56 1st couple swing, while 2nd couple start their first swing. 1st couple then drops back into 4th couple's place when 2nd lady starts swinging 3rd man (who is now in 2nd place). If you have a 5 couple set, 2nd couple start their first swing once 1st couple reach 3rd couple.
Notes: The dance is usually repeated many times till everyone is exhausted.
Remember, the rule is always give right arm to your partner and left arm to everyone else.
Strip the Willow is modified a traditional Scottish Ceilidh dance.
