Sciencism

 Is it better to make one's own uninformed choices, or to let someone else make informed choices for us?

We live in an age of extreme specialization. Politicians run our country, accountants do our taxes, barbers cut our hair, butchers cut our meat... and religious leaders deal with our spiritual affairs. It is a good thing, to let others who are more qualified and informed to make choices for us. To delegate some of our responsibility to others. To out-source.

Of course, we can try to be self-sufficient by doing our own taxes, cutting our own hair, raising our own cattle, cutting our own meat, and dealing with our own spiritual affairs. The results will likely be less than satisfactory however. And there just isn't enough time in the day.

Who you choose, to make informed decisions on your behalf is very important. For example, some people choose to let the Labour Party run the country. Others choose to let the Liberals run the country. Some choose to let Christian religious leaders deal with their spiritual affairs. Others choose Muslim religious leaders.

What is the purpose of Sciencism? When you become a Sciencist, you choose to let Science and NSD make informed choices on your behalf. You choose to let Science and NSD deal with your religious affairs. You choose to let Science and NSD interpret new scientific discoveries for you.

You choose to let Science and NSD choose for you:

• who should run the country
• what and how you should eat and drink
• what forms of birth control are acceptable
• how you should maintain personal cleanliness and hygiene
• how you should court a member of the opposite sex
• at what age should you have children, etc

Note that "choosing someone to make decisions on your behalf (in a particular matter)" is different from "choosing someone to choose someone to make informed decisions on your behalf (in a particular matter)". Why do you need someone to choose for you? Why can't you choose yourself? The reason is simple. For example, to decide between the Labour Party and the Liberal Party, you must be well-informed in politics, economics, history, etc. If you choose one of them without being well-informed, then you're making an uninformed choice.
